waste - Sources and types of solid wastes – sampling - Composition – Generation
rates – Factors affecting generation rates. Onsite handling, Storage and
Processing of solid wastes - necessary equipments.
UNIT II COLLECTION AND TRANSFER OF SOILD WASTES 9
Collection of solid waste - Collection services - collection system, equipments –
Time and frequency of collection - labour requirements – Factors affecting collection
– Analysis of collection systems – collection routes – Preparation of Master
schedules. Transfer and Transport – Need for transfer operations - Transfer
stations – types - Transport means and methods - location of transfer stations.
UNIT III PROCESSING TECHNIQUES AND RECOVERY OF ENERGY 9
Processing Techniques – purposes – Mechanical volume reduction – necessary
equipments – Chemical volume reduction – incinerators – Mechanical size reduction –
Selection of equipments - Component separation – Methods – Drying and
Dewatering. Recovery of resources, conversion products and energy recovery –
